Play Rugby Union
Rugby is a game with something for everyone. It is totally inclusive for all shapes, sizes, interests and abilities.
The RFU’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are five great reasons to get involved with rugby. They are what make rugby union so special and we are here to help you get started.
In the top right-hand corner of this page you will find a club search tool. Simply add in your postcode or club and we will do the hard work for you. It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a club, university, school or college – we can help find the right club for you.
At the RFU we are also determined to keep players involved in the game. The RFU Play On campaign has been running for a number of years and a key component is the dedicated network of more than 1,500 O2 Pathfinders up and down the country. These guys can make the connections for you and leave you to get on with enjoying your rugby.

Getting started in rugby
It's easy to get involved in a club. The first involvement in the game may come at school but it is just as easy to start playing at a local rugby club.
Our job at the RFU is to make the game as exciting, accessible and rewarding as possible for men, women, boys and girls.
If you are new to the game our informal introduction to the game will give you a great understand of rugby union's basics.
Read in tandem with the positions guide and you will be off to a great start.
Going further with your rugby career
For more experienced players looking to refine their skills, we have all you need to know on skills and fitness with drills, training tips and even nutrition advice to help you get even more from your rugby.
One of rugby’s main attractions is that the game thrives because it fits all ages, shapes and sizes. Teams only function if they have the right combination of players – from big and sturdy props to tall and athletic locks and to fast and elusive wings – so there will be a place for you.
Coach, referee or volunteer
If you want to be part of the rugby community without getting quite as muddy then there are other opportunities too. Apply and develop your skills as a coach, referee or volunteer. Rugby provides lots of opportunities to get stuck in on and off the pitch, no matter what you want to achieve.
