The Saxons provide an exciting opportunity to gain first hand knowledge on the best young players coming through the ranks of English rugby. Essentially acting as England’s second team, the standard of the squad is high.

George Robson

Advancing into the England Saxons’ squad was a logical progression for Stourbridge-born George Robson, who captained England U16, appeared for the U18 side. He went on to lead the senior England team to victories over both the South African Barbarians South and North teams in June this year. Educated at Bromsgrove School, he began playing at Old Swinford Hospital School, Stourbridge in a career that has included a month at Natal Sharks Academy in Durban during the summer of 2005.

Since being named in March last year as the LV= Breakthrough Player from a short list of six in the 2011-12 Anglo-Welsh competition, the career of Jonny May has gathered momentum. He joined the England squad in Johannesburg a year ago as a replacement for Harlequins’ George Lowe who had returned home after a scan showed left ankle ligament damage.

Christian Wade

Outstanding performances on the IRB World Sevens circuit have ushered in a highly promising 15-a-side career for Christian Wade, who won his first Test cap against Argentina at Salta on his second senior tour to Argentina this June. He also went to South Africa last year.
