The RFUW Development team to take on Italy A at London Welsh on Friday December 12th, kick-off 7pm, has today (Monday) been announced.
England Coach Mike Barnett has made nine changes to the starting line-up that defeated the Combined Services 32-10 in November. The pack is largely the same, except for Lichfield’s Gemma Nunnerly coming into the backrow. Lichfield scrum-half Ali Taft will skipper the side.
Barnett said: “As we are playing an international team we are expecting this to be a step-up for the players. I am sure Italy A will be bringing plenty of capped players so this could be a real test for our team.
“I have made quite a few changes, mainly in the backs. This is to give as many players as we can a chance to show what they can do ahead of a busy season of international fixtures.
“Against the Combined Services I was impressed with our performance, but I am looking for more. These matches are really about seeing how players respond out of their normal club environment. They responded well last time so I am hoping for more of the same.”
The RFUW Development team is a side largely made up of England Under 20s players and players who are on the fringes of the England Elite 44 squad.
